A manipulator is a multifunctional machine that can automate positioning control and can be reprogrammed to change. It has multiple degrees of freedom and can be used to move objects to perform work in a variety of different environments. Industrial manipulators are a new technology in the field of near-automatic control and have become an important part of modern manufacturing production systems.
The manipulator arms are used to grip workpieces (or tools) and have various structural forms, such as clamping, holding and adsorption types, depending on the shape, size, weight, material and operational requirements of the gripped object. Motion mechanism, so that the hand to complete a variety of rotation (oscillation), movement or composite movement to achieve the prescribed action, change the position and posture of the gripped object. The independent movement of the motion mechanism, such as lifting, telescoping and rotating, is called the degree of freedom of the manipulator. In order to grasp an object in any position and orientation in space, six degrees of freedom are required. The degree of freedom is a key parameter in the design of a manipulator. The more degrees of freedom, the greater the flexibility of the manipulator, the wider the versatility, and the more complex the structure. Generally, special robots have 2 to 3 degrees of freedom. The control system is used to complete specific movements by controlling the motor of each degree of freedom of the manipulator. It also receives feedback from sensors to form a stable closed-loop control. The core of the control system is usually composed of a micro-control chip such as a microcontroller or dsp, which is programmed to achieve the desired function.
The rapid development of industrial manipulators is due to its positive role is increasingly recognized. First, it can partially replace manual operation; second, it can follow a certain procedure, time and position to complete the transfer and loading and unloading of workpieces according to the requirements of the production process; third, it can operate the necessary machine tools for welding and assembly. Therefore, it can greatly improve the labor conditions of workers, significantly improve labor productivity, and accelerate the pace of mechanization and automation of industrial production. As a result, the advanced industrial countries pay attention to, and invested a lot of material and financial resources to research and application. Especially in high temperature, high pressure, dust, noise and with radioactive and polluting occasions, the application is more widely. In China, in recent years, there has been rapid development, and achieved certain results, by the industrial sector’s attention.
